Tiger Woods; tabloid target of the month...oh, and athlete of the decade

It won't make news concerning his string of mistresses and speculation over what Dr. Anthony Galea might or might not have provided him go away. Only a very big bomb could do that. But news that editors of Associated Press member newspapers have voted Tiger Woods Athlete of the Decade might raise a smile in the Woods household, for a couple of seconds at least.

Woods received 56 of the 142 votes, more than half of which were placed subsequent to his unfortunate car journey of November 27th when he took the Escalade out for a quick spin but didn't even reach the gates to his Isleworth community before slamming into a fire hydrant and coming to rest up against a tree.

Cancer survivor, and seven-time winner of the Tour de France (six of those victories coming this decade), Lance Armstrong was second with 33 votes while Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer, who won 15 Grand Slam titles between Wimbledon in 2003 and this year's grass-court classic when he beat Andy Roddick in the greatest tennis match of all time, came in third, eight votes behind Armstrong and 12 ahead of swimmer Michael Phelps who has won 14 Olympic gold medals and 22 World Championship golds since 2001. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady got six votes, sprinter Usain Bolt four and five others one vote apiece.

Woods's win in the voting is a victory for good sense. Regardless of the man's suspect morals, there is little doubt that in the sporting arena he has had no peer in recent years. In any other decade, Armstrong and Federer would probably have had very little competition themselves, but in a period during which Woods won 64 times around the world, including 12 major championships and 14 World Golf Championship events, even they must raise their hands and concede victory to a player regarded by most as the greatest his sport has ever seen.

Yep, fair enough. He's also 'Player' of the Month.

Haha, player of the month - like it.
This has all been really sad. It's not like he had one affair with a beautiful women that he actually loved (which would have been more acceptable, somehow), but a bunch of skanky, golddigging whores. Horrible.
As for athlete of the decade, I'd actually put Woods below the others while acknowledging he is brilliant. Armstrong, Federer and Phelps's winning percdentage is better. I mean, Phelps hardly ever loses. And Armstrong won seven in a row at the most grueling race in the world.

Oh come on. Even the best golfers lose most of the time. Woods has lost less than any other golfer.

Dude you dumbass, do you know what Roger Federer has accomplished. Tiger is in no way the "the athlete of the decade" in a global sense. Tennis is a much more taxing sport and what Roger has done equals or trumps Tiger's decade.
