Tiger Woods has had a rough time lately and it is hard to believe that it will be one month tomorrow since his 2:35 a.m. single vehicle car crash. The events that have transpired in the past month have captivated public attention and swept media focus by storm. Why is the public fascinated with the Tiger Woods story? Why does anyone care and more importantly, should they care? These are just a few of the questions that have transpired over the past four weeks. The answer is quite simply, yes, the public should care.
A picture is worth a thousand words and photos from the Tiger Woods scandal are a hot commodity. From the first pictures of the crashed Cadillac to the recent photos of the alleged mistresses, the public is curious of all aspects of Tiger’s case and photos are no exception. Photos of Tiger Woods right now are set to go for approximately $300,000. Whoever captures a recent photo of Tiger is set to make a pretty penny from the image.
Many still say, however, who cares and ask why we should care about Tiger Woods’ personal life, the reasons for his car accident, whether he was cheating on Elin with one or 100 women, and who the mistresses are. Simply put, the public should care because Tiger Woods is a public figure who promoted himself as a man of honesty, integrity, and of values. To learn that Tiger Woods lied to the public is not only a juicy, scandalous story, but shows that the public put him on a pedestal on false pretenses.
There is no doubt that Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golfers whom ever lived, and were he simply a golfer, the fallout from his scandal wouldn’t be as great. There are many celebrities and athletes who have moral failings and the fallout is not as great as Tiger Woods. Tiger, however, broadcasted throughout his charity work, and on his very own website that he was different. He claimed to be a man full of principle, integrity, and above all put his own family first.
This is why the scandal is so great and why the public has a right to know what is going on. If Tiger Woods had never made these claims, the fallout wouldn’t be as great.
