Tiger Woods confirmed via his official Website, just as Lindsey Vonn posted a similar message to her Facebook page, that the two are indeed dating. The postings came Monday afternoon, March 18, according to People. Tiger’s statement read in part, “Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating”, according to USA Today. Both Woods and Lindsey Vonn closed out their announcements with a plea for privacy with regards to their budding romance.
Us Weekly reports Tiger and Lindsey first met at a charity event in April 2012, but their relationship didn’t take a romantic until November.
But despite the couple’s efforts to conceal their relationship, people took notice in February when Woods, 37, sent his private jet to transport Vonn to a hospital for treatment, after she injured her leg in a skiing competition in Austria.
“We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes”, Tiger wrote.
The 28 year-old Olympic Gold Medalist posted, “I don't plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends”.
USA pointed out that announcing a relationship to millions of people on Twitter and Facebook, along with professional photographs, is an interesting way to request privacy, “particularly when it's done on a Monday afternoon, a peak time of Internet traffic”.
Tiger Woods famously crashed his SUV in November 2009, after a fight with his then-wife Elin Nordegren over the golfer’s multiple affairs, thus setting off a chain of events ending in the couple’s divorce in August 2010.
Lindsey Vonn announced she filed for divorce from then husband Thomas Vonn in November 2011 after four years of marriage. It was just finalized in January of this year.
Romance rumors heated up when Woods and Vonn were reported to have set sail in Florida waters after Tiger won the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral a week ago.
