This writer asked Dr. Joel Block, a noted Long Island author, couples and sex therapist, whether people like Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren can recover from sexual addiction and affairs.

His answer was, “It depends on what kind of shape you were in before it happens. Some marriages are faltering, and an event like this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. It depends on what is going on for the couple."

But for Tiger Woods, he said, the question [of recovery] is one of humility. “He lives in a different world than most of us live in. Will he be humble enough to enter treatment and not think he is too good for this?

“I think [Tiger Woods] has a lot of work to do to save himself, I’m not talking about his endorsements, but living a life that is satisfying,” Dr. Block said there is usually an underlying emotional issue when it comes to addictive and compulsivle behaviors. He said that people who self-indulge - with things like affairs - instead of self-soothe, end up less content than people who can deal with their emotions effectively.
