This morning, Tiger Woods finally revealed on his Facebook and Twitter pages what many fans and the media have speculated the past few months – that he and pro skier Lindsey Vonn are in a relationship.
Woods posted four photos and a brief but telling message:
“This season has been great so far and I'm happy with my wins at Torrey and Doral. Something nice that's happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes.”
Ms. Vonn responded by affirming the rumor on her own Timeline and Twitter by stating:
“I guess it wasn't a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods. Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy. I don't plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends. Thank you for understanding and your continued support! xo LV”
One of the most successful golfers ever, Woods appears quite happy with his newfound relationship with Vonn as evidenced with his two early victories this year on the PGA Pro Tour. His most recent win, the Doral Open, was his 76th overall victory on the tour, just six shy of the all-time record held by Sam Snead with 82. Woods also trails Jack Nicklaus in total grand slam victories with Woods winning 14 and Nicklaus 18.
The former number one golfer in the world experienced a major slump on the pro tour after a scandal broke out about his sex life with several women but now is in position to regain his status as the world's top ranked player if he defends his title at Bay Hill in Orlando. Vonn is no slouch either. She is a four-time alpine skiing World Cup champion, a gold medal winner at the 2010 Winter Olympics and winner of six consecutive World Cup championships in her main event, the downhill.
While Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn are absolutely deserving of their privacy, it will be difficult to maintain, given the duo’s high profiles. Woods himself has over 25 million likes on his Facebook page and three million followers on Twitter.
