Tiffany Leiseth, 26, was a substitute teacher in the New Brighton School District in Pennsylvania. She was charged this week with allegedly having had sexual activity with two of her students. Specifically, the teacher has been charged with two counts of felony institutional sexual assault and one count of furnishing alcoholic beverages to minors after allegedly having engaged in sexual activities with two of her students, according to WebProNews on Thursday.

Leiseth has been with the New Brighton School District for the past two years. Recently, she had been employed by the district as a long-term English class substitute in the district’s high school. After the superintendent of the school district alerted police authorities of two phone calls the superintendent allegedly received about misconduct by the teacher, an investigation began in late May. The misconduct mentioned in the alleged phone calls stated that senior male students at the school were having sexual contact with the teacher.

According to Police Chief Leo McCarthy of the Moon Township Police Department, there was a rumor that a school teacher was sending nude photos of herself to two of the school’s male students. After that rumor was received, authorities did a follow up and found the students involved. Subsequently, the nude photographs of the teacher were found and the students aptly identified the teacher.

The results of the investigation showed that Leiseth, who is married, had texted the nude photos of herself to the two students. Both of the students who received the nude photos from Leiseth were in her English class and 18 at the time of the incidents. Both students involved have stated that they were invited to the teacher’s house, supplied with alcohol, and engaged in sexual activity.

McCarthy said that the charges against Leiseth are referred to as institutional sexual assault which is a felony of the third degree. He said that this sort of crime came on the books around seven years ago. The police chief said that the law is designed to give protection to people who are being supervised by others. According to the police chief, a school teacher cannot have sex with a student even though the sexual acts allegedly occurred hours after the last day of school. At issue is that the incidents occurred prior to the students’ graduation.

According to the superintendent of the New Brighton school, the students are “our students until they walk across that stage and get that diploma.” The result is that the two young men were still students and the law applies. There are reportedly no charges against Leiseth for having sent the nude photographs, however, because the two recipients were 18 years old adults when the pictures were sent. Needless to say, the teacher is no longer employed by the school district, according to the Huffington Post.
