An extensive trail system boasting over 15 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails is located off of Interstate-80 and Highway 210 just a short drive from Laramie and Cheyenne.
During the winter, the trails, which are maintained and groomed by the Medicine Bow Nordic Association (MBNA) under a Special Use Permit on U.S. Forest Service land are packed and tracked for both skate skiing and classical skiing.
Groomed trails at Tie City are diverse, ranging from easy trails on flat to moderate terrain perfect for beginners to more technical trails with steep climbs and challenging downhill sections for expert skiers. For the backcountry enthusiast there are approximately 10 kilometers of ungroomed trails traversing around Pole Mountain with scenic views from the summit. Trails are well marked, and a trail map can be found on the MBNA website.
Since the Tie City Trail System is on Forest Service land there is a $5 fee per vehicle, which can be paid at the Tie City Trailhead. There is no cost to use the trails but since they are maintained and groomed by the MBNA, skiers are encouraged to become members of this non-profit organization to help offset the cost of maintaining the trails.
Current ski conditions and grooming report can be found here.
