It’s a theatrical party that’s been going on every summer for decades, a celebration of the in-joke that many people feel is a natural side effect of simply living in Utah. Coming to Salt Lake Acting Company’s “Saturday’s Voyeur” may not make things any less crazy, but at least it’s a chance to laugh about it together.
The company’s 2010 production, “Saturday’s Voyeur: The Year That Was,” will hit the stage Wednesdays through Sundays June 30 through August 29 (tickets
now on sale). The show, written by Allen Nevins and Nancy Borgenicht, continues in the grand tradition of lampooning the idiosyncrasies and sometimes outright insanities of life in Utah over the past year. As always, various Utahns have done their best to give the duo material, from former state senator Kevin Garn’s little jaunt in the hot tub to Huntsman breaking up with us to head to China (illustration by Pat Bagley).
Sigh - at least they gave “Voyeur” fodder for some great musical numbers.
Those looking for a sneak preview of the production can head to the Utah Pride Festival this Sunday, where the “Voyeur” cast will be performing at the North Main Stage at Washington Park (show starts at 12:45 p.m., between the headline acts). SLAC will also have a booth at the festival, located on the southwest side of the park.
