The national tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita is coming to the Majestic Theatre in April for eight performances only and tickets are now on sale. This is the first new Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning musical in years.

Evita chronicles the true life story of Eva Perón the second wife of Argentine president Juan Perón from childhood, rise to power, charity work and death. She rose from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady and became one of the most powerful women in the world. Even though she was loved by her people because of her charity work her life was a tragic one because of her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health.

It began as a rock opera concept album in 1976 and that led to a London production and eventually to Broadway. Memorable songs include “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall.” There have been numerous worldwide productions and it was made into a movie starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas in 1996.
