After signing three defensive players on Friday, the Ticats dipped back into the free agent market to bring a fourth defender to Hamilton, signing defensive back Deon Beasley on Saturday.
Beasley spent the last three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, picking up 59 tackles, 14 special teams tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one touchdown in 37 career games.
Beasley becomes the third new player added to the secondary, a unit the Ticats were looking to overhaul this off-season. The Ticats signed James Patrick back in January and Evan McCollough yesterday.
The Ticats also released veteran running back Avon Cobourne. The Ticats released Cobourne last year and then re-signed him after Martell Mallett, the man signed to replace Cobourne, suffered a season-ending injury in training camp. Cobourne carried the ball 124 times for 737 yards, while also catching 32 passes for 337 yards and scoring four touchdowns in 10 games in 2012.
The second day of free agency, while not as busy as the first, saw a few other players land new deals. The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed receiver Jordan Sisco, and signed former Toronto Argonaut linebacker Tristan Black and former Edmonton Eskimo defensive back Weldon Brown. Jerald Brown, who was released by Montreal on Friday, agreed to a restructured deal and re-signed with the Alouettes.
