Tia Tardy captures female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2013/2014 winter season- Week 14-March 3rd-March 9th


Tia Tardy- Mattanawcook- track/basketball- She chose indoor track as her primary sport, but also played basketball.

She led the team with steals and 9.2 ppg to help the MA JV to a 10-7 record.

In track, she finished 2nd in the PVC/EMITL meet in long jump. 2nd in the state indoor track meet and then 8th in the N.E. meet this past week-end in Boston. She finished 8th out of 23 long jumpers and was the only freshman even competing in that event.

Tardy joins Chase Vicaire, Trysten Pelkey, and Courtney McIntyre as student/athletes from Mattanawcook high school that have earned athlete of the week honors. Click here for the full list of winners.

This is the last week that AOW will be announced until the spring sports season gets underway.
