If all this cold weather has had you locked in your house, wrapped in a blanket in front of the fireplace, maybe tonight is your night to finally go out on the town and catch some live music. Here is a look at Thursday night's top Central Iowa concerts.
The Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines will host Sublime tribute band Badfish tonight at 8 p.m. The Boston Music Award nominees have toured the United States ever since forming at the University of Rhode Island way back in 2001. Tickets for the all ages show are $20, and they may be purchased at the Val Air box office or printed online through TicketWeb.
The Greenwood Lounge will host The Soul Searchers tonight at 9 p.m. The Des Moines band blends blues, jazz, rockabilly, and surf rock, and they are past winners of the Iowa Blues Challenge. The show is free to all 21 and over.
Finally, Amy Lynn & The Gunshow will headline Vaudeville Mews tonight at 9 p.m. Members of the New York seven-piece soul band have performed with or opened for the likes of Roberta Flack, Spoon, Bette Midler, Yo La Tengo, Duffy, St. Vincent, and the Radio City Orchestra and has a song used on the WB network's Big Easy Brides. The band has performed at the CMJ Music Marathon, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and the Out and About Pride Event. Amy Lynn & The Gunshow's debut album Don't Trip on the Glitter is due out in the spring. Their show tonight has a $5 cover and is a 21-and-over event. Paige Harpin will open the show.
