Thursday is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

How do you plan to celebrate National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day this year?  Many people do not know that it is coming up on Thursday.  There are many advocates celebrating and you should be too.  This is important to all men and women since it could happen to anyone not just other people.

One way to celebrate is to make people aware of this event.  National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is to make people aware of this disease that is around you whether you want to believe it or not.  People are trying to get the word out about HIV/AIDS and we need to listen so we can make others aware.  Only education on the disease will make you aware of the situation.

The one thing that needs to be done is to stop the judging and stereotyping.  We really need to listen to the people who are living with HIV/AIDS.  When people find out that someone has HIV/AIDS they automatically assume that they are gay or they slept with hundreds of people.  This is not always the case since anyone can get HIV/AIDS.  This is not just for the rich or the poor.  So let’s celebrate this year by educating ourselves and others about the disease.  Let’s make sure that everyone knows the truth and not just the stereotyping that goes on.

In the state of Iowa 2,200 are living with this disease and are discriminated against just for this reason.  There are hundreds of others living with this disease and not even realizing they are infected.  These people are safe from the judging and stereotyping just because they have not been tested yet.  This makes it a dangerous situation so it is more important now to be educated.  Many people in the state of Iowa are scared when it comes to any disease but this is not the answer.  The Iowa Department of Public Health has the answers so you are not scared anymore.

On March 10th let’s celebrate National Women and Girl HIV/AIDS Awareness Day by making people aware of the truth and not the judging and stereotyping that goes along with the disease.  Maybe next year we could celebrate without the judging.
