They say better mental preparedness, hydration, proper nutrition and sufficient rest are the key factors that contribute to a winning football team’s success. The San Diego Surge’s coaching staff is confident all four factors will be addressed prior to Saturday night’s Women’s Football Alliance championship game. For many of the participants in Saturday’s National Title game between the Boston Militia and the San Diego Surge, this will be the biggest sporting event of their lives and you can rest assure they’ll be giving it everything they have.

Over the past couple days five San Diego TV networks aired an announcement of the big game with Fox 5 San Diego and Valley View Casino Sports Wrap leading the way. Surge It Up!!!! has suddenly become the rallying cry within San Diego County.
Plus, early predictions have started to appear on Facebook.com:
Defensive back Desiree Weimann stated: “Surge 38 Militia 21”
Running back Deana Guidry pronounced: “Surge 42 Militia 20”
Defensive back Brittany Cotton predicted: “Surge 35 Militia 21”
The most positive prediction of all came from veteran kicker Andrea Grant: "I wear a size 4.5 ring."

Present day air travel for a team like the San Diego Surge with close to 50 players and 10 coaches, especially for the larger members of the team, can be a bear. First of all, it was recommended all team members arrive at the airport for their Thursday afternoon departure at least two hours in advance of their scheduled flight. Why? As a courtesy to the airlines, airlines security and their fellow passengers. No friendly sky cap at the curb could possibly accommodate such a large and anxious group of athletes.
After their three plus hour flight, arrival time 5:39 at the enormous Dallas Airport, it’s off to the Holiday Inn which is just minutes away from the Women's Football Alliance Combine 2011. Their jam packed weekend begins early Friday with a team walk through. Next is the WFA Combine scheduled from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Any women’s football player, past or present, is eligible to compete in the Combine. Participation categories for the WFA Combine include Rookie, Seasoned, Veteran, Master’s, and Alumni divisions. Competitors will participate in individual events and an obstacle course for timing and/or reps. Awards will be given for individual best performance on each event as well as overall best and obstacle course best.
Activities include: Bench Press, Squat, 40 yard Sprint, Sit-up, Push-up, Vertical jump, Box drill, t-drill, Obstacle course: Tire run (run through tires), Low hurdles-over pads, Low crawl-Bear crawl, Strength carry-flip tires, Ground ladder- footwork, Pad Hit- Bend hit bags and finally the 40 yard sprint.
Each competitor is asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled competition time. Competitors not present 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time will be rescheduled if time permits.
The 2011 WFA Women's Football Games to be played on Saturday, July 30th at Pennington Field, 1501 Central Dr., Bedford, Texas, 76022 include the All-American Game in the morning (11 a.m.) and then the WFA Championship Game in the evening (7 p.m.). The Pennington Field stadium holds 12,500 and since there's a city ordinance that prohibits inside tracks, the seats are closer to the sidelines creating a more intimate spectator experience.
The All-American game features the All-stars from the 60 teams nationwide who are considered to be the best at their position. The Championship game in the evening will of course determine the Women's Football Alliance National Champion. That game features the Boston Militia, the National Conference Champion going up against the San Diego Surge, the American Conference Champion.
