Thursday: Author Gary Younge tells the story behind MLK's 'I Have a Dream'

Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech endures as a defining moment in the civil rights movement. On Thursday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m., author Gary Younge will talk about the background of Dr. King's speech and the events surrounding the 1963 March on Washington at Denney Hall, Room 311 at The Ohio State University.

Gary Younge is a columnist for The Guardian and The Nation, and author of The Speech: The Story Behind Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Dream. His other books include No Place Like Home – A Black Briton's Journey through the American South.

"Younge provides new insight into the roles of key civil rights leaders in a captivating story that is eloquently written and punctuated with surprising detail," writes Lilly Workneh in The Grio. "More importantly, the book sheds new light on Dr. King and paints him in a way that portrays the true grit and determination that stuck with him like the many followers he inspired and led."

The event is hosted by International Socialist Organization – Columbus and co-sponsored by the Committee for Justice in Palestine at OSU, SHADES, and WARR – Women and Allies Rising in Resistance.
