On a hot summer day, nothing will keep you cooler than the blasts of air conditioners running full force around the city. And where's the best place to take advantage of all this sub room-temp comfort? The museum! Most of the museums in the Museum District offer free general admission on Thursdays, making it a great summer treat for you and the kids.
Oftentimes, women forget about that refrigerator-cold feeling the minute they walk around a museum in the summertime because of the illusion that the heat and humidity outside may give them. A simple, light cardigan is the obvious choice, but why not try a light scarf that doubles as a wrap? Urban Outfitters has a great selection right now of summer scarves in an array of hot colors that are wide enough to act as a wrap then easy and light enough to tie around your neck or on your bag once you step out.
What to Wear
- Rompers are still a favorite this season, so try one on in a fun print and light fabrics. Click here to see a sample outfit.
- Maxi dresses are going full force this summer. Layer a button down over it with the ends tied and wear over flats. Or layer an off-the-shoulder short-sleeve sweatshirt or tee to add some downtown flair. Click here to see a sample outfit. Click here to see a sample shirt.
- Banded capris, a sleeveless top and wedges look put together and modern. Click here to see a sample outfit.
Other Tips:
- Be nice to your feet and wear light platform wedges that don't pinch, comfy flats, or sandals. Museum floors are usually hard surfaces that can give your feet a beating after two or three hours of walking.
- Be respectful of the museum and other visitors. You don't have to get dressed up, but leave the too-sexy tops and cut-offs at places like the art musuems, for example, at home.
