According to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport website, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds lead the University of Calgary Dinos after day one of the 2013 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Swimming Championships at Calgary's University of Calgary Aquatic Centre.
The Thunderbirds picked up 232 points and lead the Dinos by 48 points on the women's side, and by eight points on the men's side in the race for the Nelson C. Hart Trophy.
There were for CIS Championship records on Thursday. In the men's 100m breaststroke, Jason Block of the University of Calgary, who is also from Calgary. swam a time of 59.08 seconds. In the women's 400m individual medley, Tianna Rissling of Medicine Hat, Alberta posted a national record time of 4:37.81.
Two Thunderbirds also posted record times. In the men's 50m backstroke, Kelly Aspinall of Vancouver, British Columbia swam a time of 24.05 seconds and in the men's 100m butterfly, Coleman Allen of Spokane, Washington swam a time of 51.88 seconds.
Competition continues Friday and Saturday in Calgary.
