Kendrick Perkins just gave the Oklahoma City Thunder their first black eye since the team moved from Seattle. Over the weekend, Perkins found himself in jail in Beaumont, Texas and the news finally came out on Monday that he was the center of a major fight that took place at a night spot.
The arrest was made when police officers showed up at the club at 2:00 a.m. and people were leaving complaining about pepper spray in the club. A spokesperson for the police department said close to 50 people surrounded Perkins as he tried to fight the club’s manager. Perkins had to be pushed out of the back door by the crowd as he yelled obscenities and attempted to fight others in the crowd upon his removal.
Kendrick Perkins was booked into jail at 4:00 a.m., posted a $150 bond and left.
What makes the story sad is that Perkins was in town to host a basketball camp for kids at his old high school. On Friday, he was supposed to play in a celebrity charity game with teammates Kevin Durant, James Harden and Eric Maynor as well as Rajon Rondo and Steven Jackson. However, Perkins was suffering from dehydration and ordered to rest by a doctor.
His time resting included hanging out at a night club until closing time and then going to jail for fighting.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are not allowed to comment on the incident. The NBA prohibits all teams from discussing anything related to players during the NBA lockout.
