From Liz Schau: “Thymus thumping” is not an innuendo, though if you didn’t know any better, you’d probably think it were (wink wink). Actually this term refers to the thymus, an endocrine gland right below your sternum, underneath your thyroid. The thumping is a kind of stimulation technique used to “wake up” the thymus, which can purportedly help stimulate the immune system, drain the lymphatic system, and clear energy out of the body.
The thymus gland is responsible for creating T-cells within the body, so this technique is especially relevant for anyone battling infection, autoimmune disease, food allergies, or with high levels of C-reactive protein: T-cells help distinguish the “self” (one’s own body tissue) from the “non-self” (pathogenic invaders); ie: the thymus helps prevent autoimmunity and allergic reactions.
Thymus thumping is actually very simple and requires less than 30 seconds of your time. Additionally, it can be done anywhere, which, for sake of money and convenience, makes it preferable to other alternative healing modalities like massage, acupuncture, acupressure, etc. Allow this nice man with a southern accent to walk you through it."
