Armed thugs in the Motor City better beware because when it comes to fighting crime all that gun control talk just got kicked to the curb! Detroit’s Police Chief James Craig just announced that the best solution to fight crime is to arm more citizens, according to Fox News.
In one of America’s most dangerous cities, the man in charge of the Motor City’s police force is saying no to gun control advocates and yes to adding more real armed muscle to deal with criminals that prey on innocent citizens.
Chief Craig informed reporters at a recent press conference that he was using common sense in green lighting more armed citizens to carry legal concealed weapons. He stressed, “If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them,” reported the Detroit News.
Craig had previously been pro-gun control when he worked on the left-coast Los Angeles Police Force. Even with high murder rates, he still was influenced by the liberal anti-concealed weapon policies of his department. Yet his mind began to change when he was exposed to the dramatically lower crime rates in Maine where concealed weapon permits were more easily accessible. According to Detroit’s Police Chief, “Maine is one of the safest places in America…because suspects knew that good Americans were armed,” suggested the Detroit News.
A recent poll of 15,000 officers by the law enforcement website policeone.com revealed that nearly 90 percent of the police officers who responded overwhelmingly felt that “casualties would be decreased if armed citizens were present during shooting incidents,” reported the Detroit News. 80 percent of these same officers supported the arming of teachers in the classroom after they have received firearm training.
Detroit may be headed toward a safer more secure city with the full blessings of Chief Craig. When citizens are safe thug behavior tends to evaporate otherwise they will be on the receiving end of Smith & Wesson justice.
For example, a 77-year-old Detroit resident who had his home broken into several times made certain the next time it happened would be the last time it happened. So according to the Detroit News Willie White shot and killed a 18-year-old man who had broken into his Detroit home in March of 2012.
The now armed senior citizen echoed the police chief’s sentiments and said, “I think these criminals would definitely think twice if they knew more citizens were armed,” according to the Detroit News.
