Are you one of those people who perfectly toasts their marshmallows to a light brown or burn them to a crisp like I do to enjoy the gooey morsel? That is right, I like to set it on fire like a torch and just blow it out. Try to cool that burning marshmallow by throwing it into a nice, creamy milkshake and you get the ultimate summer treat, the Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake.
Now, with your marshmallows, you will need to just do like Usher says and just, “let it burn.” Do not be scared if it gets black and crispy. In fact, it is those tiny burnt pieces that definitely make this Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake the real deal.
Incidentally, this shake is so good that you would want to make it twice in one day. How about you give this recipe a try for yourself.
Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake
Modified ever so slightly from Spike Mendelsohn’s recipe
Creates two tiny or one big milkshake (about two and a half cups)
8-10 giant marshmallows
Three big scoops of vanilla ice cream or a huge one-cup of vanilla ice cream
Half a cup of milk
Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract
Place the marshmallows on a skewer and toast until lightly burnt over a gas flame. If you do not have skewers or a gas range, you can toast the marshmallows on a tray in the oven for two or three minutes. Keep watching the marshmallows as they are in the oven. You see, marshmallows have been known to burst into flames or possibly blow up. Put the gooey morsels on a dish to chill out.
In a food processor blend together toasted marshmallows, vanilla extract, milk, and ice cream. Keep one or two toasted marshmallows to top the milkshakes. Mix well. For a less thick milkshake add more milk. If you would like it thicker, scoop more ice cream in. Pour into glasses and top with toasted marshmallows. Enjoy this quick summer shake when the heat starts to get to you.
