Throw Back Thursdays: 80's cocktails and the band Survivor

Survivor still touring and playing their famous anthems!
Survivor still touring and playing their famous anthems!

For us 80’s kids, we can’t get enough of the trending #throwbackthursday and #flashbackfriday photo blasts from the past. They bring back memories of good times and horrible hair and fashion choices that were in style during the decade. Then there were the cocktails that were as over the top as some of the outfits we wore. Sex on the Beach, Red Death, the Slippery Nipple, Singapore Sling, the Hurricane and many others were all designed to pack a sneaky yet delicious alcoholic punch.

While the hair styles and fashion trends have changed for the better, many of the classic 80’s cocktails have survived the passing of time unscathed. The ingredients are still the same but unfortunately, many of the bartenders out there were probably born in the 80’s (or 90’s) and will most likely call security if you ask them for a “Slow Comfortable Screw Against the Wall.” If you can find a bartender over 30 you might get lucky.

For anyone else looking to knock back this week’s #tbt or #fbf, the very potent Alabama Slammer requires very little effort.

1oz. Southern Comfort
1 oz. Amaretto
½ oz. Sloe Gin
Squeeze of lemon
Orange juice.
Pour all ingredients over ice in a highball glass. Stir and add a squeeze of lemon.

For those of you 80’s kids living in the Northwood and Arnolds Park, IA area, you can take your #fbf to a new level and see 80’s rock band Survivor perform LIVE. Both David Bickler (original front man) and Jimi Jamison will perform all their greatest hits like Eye of the Tiger, Burning Heart, Can’t Hold Back, Is this Love and many many more! It’ll be an 80’s weekend to remember!
