This past weekend food bloggers from all over the country gathered in the San Bernadino Mountains to compare notes, learn new skills, and brush up on some existing ones. After settling in, the first order of business was a cupcake decorating workshop sponsored by Wilton Enterprises. Add sprinkles, bags of brightly colored icing, and cut out figures to a group of excited food bloggers, and watch the fun begin.
While your L.A. Party Planning Examiner is happy to see the cupcake trend die out for weddings, this weekend served to remind her that they are always welcome for a child’s birthday party. Imagine the delight in your child’s eye when they catch this handsome giraffe, or adorable little teddy bear gracing their cupcake. Note- while these designs look fancy, they are actually quite simple.
Another benefit-to paraphrase Wilton's 2008 Celebration Report (yes, there actually is a Celebration Report- isn't that great?), decorated cupcakes become part of the of the party décor, and instantly gets little guests excited about the event.
And one more benefit-for stressed out party giving Mom's, there's no cake cutting involved, and everyone gets their own little uniform sized cake, so no crying over someone getting a bigger piece.
Fortunately, we have a great resource here in Los Angeles, Gloria's Cake and Candy Supplies. They carry a wide selection of sprinkles, glitter, decorating tips and bags, and all sorts of premade decorating items. The staff there is always willing to answer questions. And if you need to quickly gain some decorating skills, there are cake decorating classes, including a express Cupcake Decorating Class. The cost is $45.00, and includes everything you need to complete 6 cupcakes. All ages are welcome, but an adult is required to accompany decorators under 12 years old.

Gloria's is located at:
12453 Washington Boulevard West Los Angeles, 90066
