Through Jersey and Beyond DJ B Nice

When did your first realize that you wanted to be a DJ?

I have always had a passion for music, listen to all genres of it, and I used to and actually still listen to DJs like DJ Juice, DJ Ty-Boogie blend CDs and thought those were always good. I realized this was something I really wanted to do actually while hanging out with DJ A-Tone. We would hit each other up to mix, and these mixing sessions could be from 30 minutes to a couple hours. The sessions started out as just for fun, but slowly as I was getting better each time, the fun started to turn into a passion. Now when we do mix, it is obviously still all in fun, but I take every session very serious to improve, and see what goes well with what songs.

What attracted you to becoming a DJ?

Watching DJs like DJ Wallah and DJ CaliCal come to Fairleigh Dickinson University and thinking to myself this is something I would love to do. Looking at how much fun I was having at these parties, and thinking I am having this much fun because of the DJ. Watching the djs then I am like they are really getting paid to party. Now I know and understand it is more than that, but that was a big plus for me a few years ago. It is also something that is really fun, and very entertaining.

What kind of music do you mix?

At any event you can see me mixing all genres of music, it can be rock, disco, funk, reggae, reggaetone, hip-hop, R&b, Jersey Club, top 40, house music and the Electronic Dance Music. A good DJ should be able to mix all genres of music, and have music for all genres. That is a key because as DJs we cannot just say I am a hip-hop DJ I cannot do your top 40 bar. Or even the other way around, can't state you only do dance music and couldn't do a party where its disco night.

What DJs do you look up to?

I have many DJs that I look up to, in no particular order Kid Capri, Funk Flex, Jazzy-Jeff, the late DJ AM, DJ Envy from Power 105 respect his grind. DJ Wallah is another DJ I look up to representing Jersey. Also, I have to say DJ Camilo is probably one DJ that I do look up to the most. They all bring something different when I listen to them.

What is your most recent mix?

The most recent mix was put up November 3, 2013, but I am planning on putting another out on my soundcloud sometime around December 15-17. I always do a Electronic Dance Mix, and a hip-hop and R&B mix that usually follow a day or two after. Many of mixes includes songs that I recently downloaded in the past month, so try to keep the listeners on music that might have not been broken on the radio just yet.

What type of events do you work?

I work all kinds of events, been in a few clubs, countless Sweet 16s, Charity Events, Formals, Karokee Nights, College Parties, and I have a few weddings under my belt as well.

What areas do you work in?

So far New York, all over Jersey and I have done a few events in PA. Trying to venture out into bigger cities and bigger clubs. Four cities I am aiming for in the future are; Orlando, Miami, Vegas, and I want to bring it back home in Lawrence, NJ. Obviously I want more stuff in NYC, but considering I have never been to Orlando, Miami, or Vegas those are cities I want to spin at. Seems like a great atmosphere. I say Lawrence, because I never want to forget where I was born at. It is always good to give back to the community, especially after you made it. Lawrence is something that can be worked out real soon.

Where can people interact with you?

I am easily accessible through Twitter @DJB_Nice on Instagram DJBNICE609 and Facebook Bayshawn BNice Wells. The best way to reach me is through twitter.

Where do you post your work online?

My work is posted on my SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/bayshawn-wells. Everything goes through there first. I am going to set-up a new youtube account where I will mix, and actually post the videos and not just the audio.

What can people expect from you in 2014?

A bigger presence in the club scene, breaking artist is a big thing for me have a couple that I am going to be featuring a lot on my mixes. Mr. Will representing Trenton, NJ is a artist I am actively working with and trying to make sure we both have a big 2014. I am working with Robert Wilborn who is actively taking care of my bookings now, and we are trying to get to the point where it can be multiple events in a night. I expect from myself a bigger and better year in 2014, I have a goal to try to get on the Hot 97 all mix weekend for a slot. The biggest thing is believing in god, and myself to make sure this year is going to be the biggest year.
