The bodies of three young female children were found in a Torrance, Calif. home on May 20, 2014, according to ABC 7 News. The girls’ mother, identified as Carol Coronado, 30, was also present, naked and holding a knife, reports KTLA.
Around 5 p.m., the local sheriff’s office received a distress call and responded to the residence. There they met by family members who told deputies Coronado had killed her three daughters, ranging in age from two months to three years old, ABC 7 reports. Neighbors told authorities the children’s grandmother “made the horrifying discovery” after Coronado called her saying she was “going crazy,” according to ABC 7.
When authorities entered the children’s bedroom, Coronado was present and the girls were found covered in blood. They were declared dead at the scene. ABC 7 reports Coronado’s husband was home at the time, but neighbors stated he was doing work outside.
KTLA reports Coronado was immediately taken into custody and then transported to a local hospital. According to NBC LA, the hospital visit was for an undisclosed examination. She was later transported to the Carson Sheriff’s station jail.
A statement released by the sheriff’s office reads, “The deputies made entry into the residence where they located the three juvenile victims, ranging in approximate age of 3-years to 2-months-old. The suspect, and mother of the children, was located adjacent to the victims. She was immediately detained.”
According to KTLA, the three girls were stabbed to death, however, NBC reports that the actual causes of death and possible motive in the attacks have not yet been revealed.
LA Weekly reports that 223rd Street and Meylers Street in Torrance will be closed throughout the night while detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the matter to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
