Three years in a Long Island shelter: the dog nobody wants

Bentley has lived all of his life in a shelter in Long Island; briefly he was fostered for only six months. His litter mates were adopted long ago, but no one has ever come along for Bentley.

It's not that he isn't adorable; look at his face.

It's not that he's mean or aggressive. His caretakers say he is fine with other dogs, although it is not recommended he be in a home with small children. The perfect home for Bentley would be with an experienced dog owner who can help this dog become a good canine citizen.

Is it because he is a Staffordshire terrier mix? Blame the irresponsible owners; not the dogs. Does Bentley look mean?

Unfortunately the Nassau County shelter where Bentley currently lives behind bars does not permit out of state adoptions.

Is there someone from Long Island who can offer Bentley a lifetime of love? Doesn't every dog deserve a human of his own?
