Three women were found shot dead in an apartment building in Manchester, Connecticut after police answered a 911 call reporting gunshots. Officers were met by an armed man carrying a toddler and a short confrontation ensued before the man put the baby down and shot himself, according to the Hartford Courant on Monday Dec. 9.
A recent update identifies the three women and the suspect in this case. New reports indicate that the man shot the mother of his 13-month-old son and the woman’s two cousins before turning the gun on himself. One of the dead women, Brittany Mills, 28, was in the process of a breakup with John Louis Lyn, 41, when he stopped by her apartment in Manchester.
Kamesha Millis, 23, and Artara Benson, 46, two cousins of Brittany, couldn’t reach her by phone and were growing concerned about her welfare so they went to her apartment. Shortly after their arrival gunshots were reported by neighbors.
Captain Christopher Davis of the Manchester Police Department reports that upon their arrival John Louis Lyn emerged from the Dye House Apartments at 190 Pine Street holding a toddler. This is when police and Lynn got into a short confrontation, ending with Lyn placing the child on the ground and then killing himself.
The child appeared unharmed, but was taken for evaluation to an area hospital. During the confrontation one of the police officers shot at Lynn, but apparently missed. The police wanted the child checked for any possible injury. Police arrived on a scene that they considered an active shooting scene. The police most likely saved the child’s life, as they prevented Lynn from fleeing with the child.
After the confrontation, police went into the apartment to find Brittany Mills dead with multiple gunshot wounds, both her cousins were dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. The three women’s bodies were lying on the living room floor of the apartment in what police describe as a gruesome scene. The suspect Lynn died of a gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner officially ruled the three women’s deaths as homicides and the suspect’s death as a suicide. The child is with relatives.
