Resolutions can be a great way to start the New Year, but they can also bring about feelings of self-loathing when they aren’t fulfilled. Here are three steps to making your resolutions easier and more fulfilling.
Step 1: Clarify. The more clarification you can give your goal the better your chances of accomplishing it.
Step 2: Use percentages to achieve your goal instead of making it black or white. For example, if you want to lose weight your resolution could be something like this: I am already fifty-percent efficient in managing my weight and I would like to be eighty-percent better by the end of the year.
Step 3: Be kind to yourself. We hear this all the time, but this step is so important when it comes to setting goals. You are the only one with you for the entirety of your life so remember that next time you want to treat yourself poorly. Ask yourself if you would treat your friend the way you are treating yourself. This can be a great identifier as to when you are judging yourself too harshly.
