Tonight (1 May), John Legend performs at the Saenger Theatre as part of his 2014 North American tour. The 9-time Grammy winner's concert will feature tracks from his latest album, “Love in the Future.”
The R&B top-ten album is, as Legend describes, “a celebration and meditation of love.” While in university, Legend studied African-American literature, and led a group of jazz/pop a cappella. His musical career launched in 2004 after the release of his debut album “Get Lifted.” He's also know for strong collaborative work, and has been featured alongside Jay-Z, The Black-Eyed Peas, and Stephen Colbert, among others.
Legend's concert starts tonight at 8pm.
More great entertainment happens Friday (2 May) at 8:30pm. Gov't Mule and the North Mississippi Allstars will perform, also at the Saenger. The concert marks Gov't Mule's first visit since the venue re-opened last fall. The group has anticipated the concert for awhile now, grateful the magical opportunity has finally arrived. The Mule's history with New Orleans stretches back nearly two decades.
Saturday (3 May), musicians will come together for “The Musical Mojo of Dr. John: A Celebration of Mac and His Music.” The performance will include a live taping in honour of the native New Orleans artist. Included among the many performers are:
Musical director for the event, Don Was, mentioned that Dr. John's music contains “a distinctive sound that embodies the rich musical heritage of New Orleans.” Dr. John's role in the music industry has been massively influential, and this concert is set to be a spectacular night in the final days of Jazz Fest.
