Three Red Sox players win Gold Gloves

The Boston Red Sox haven't had multiple Gold Glove winners since 1990 but this year they have three.

Centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and second baseman Dustin Pedroia all were awarded the Rawlings Gold Glove Award last night for their superior defensive performances in 2011.

The award is given to one player at each position in the American and National Leagues each year.  Along with the Red Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League were the only other team to have three winners this year with starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw and outfielders Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp receiving the award.

The last time the Red Sox had three Gold Glove winners was in 1979 when outfielders Fred Lynn and Dwight Evans won along with shortstop Rick Burleson.
