Three reasons to see Black Nativity

See also

Black Nativity the movie/musical starring Jennifer Hudson, Angela Basett, Forest Whittaker and newcomer Jacob Latimore was released recently and grossed over 5 million dollars in it's opening week. I was able to see a preview of it and I must say it is an uplifting movie for everyone. I want to encourage all to check it out; so I have put together a quick list of three reasons you should go see Black Nativity.

1. The Music-if you like musicals then this is the movie for you. All of the songs are great and even though I could have done without Forest and Angela singing, the film has some of the best music and musical performances that I have seen in a movie. From Latimore to the Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige music reigns supreme in Black Nativity. The lead of the movie, Jennifer Hudson delivers every time she performs. Which leads me to reason number two.

2. Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Hudson-I can't say it enough she gives a stellar performance in this movie and lights up the screen every time she hits it. When she puts her young son Langston played by Latimore, on the bus to travel to his grandparents because she can no longer care for them both her heart-wrenching song hits the soul. She is the lead in this movie and should be. At the end of the movie when she joins in to sing the Walter Hawkins classic "Be Grateful" you can't help but move right along with her and the choir.

3. A True Family Movie-I mentioned above that this is a movie for everyone and it is exactly that. You can take your little five year old child to this movie as well as you 89 year old grandmother. There is no nudity or violence in Black Nativity. The plot is a little predictable, I knew who Tyrese's character was before it was revealed easily, but it leaves all movie goers feeling hopeful and happy. Spreading happiness....yeah that is what Black Nativity does and if you go see it you will leave the theater in a good mood...I guarantee it.
