Harry Potter fans rejoice! Today The New York Times announced three new megamovies are planned for the Harry Potter spinoff of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The 42-page paperback novel is being transformed into three movies with the first screenplay being written by Rowling herself.
The story is not a prequel or a sequel, but is a separate story set in New York 70 years before Harry and his friends arrived. The main character is a “magazoologist” named Newt Scamander.
The three new films won’t be the end for Potter fans as Rowling is also continuing her beloved series with new chapters at the official fansite, Pottermore.com. A stage play of “Harry Potter” is also in the works. And, of course, the new movies will include new video games and consumer toys.
Fantastic Beasts doesn’t have a director, start date, or cast lineup yet. But Potter fans are just thrilled to know it will happen.
