Boone County Sheriff’s deputies have charged three men with torturing , killing and dismembering a man.
Police arrested the trio today for the homicide. Authorities have said the victim is a suspected heroin dealer and the trio said they wanted to “rid the world of the evil in it.”
The murder is Northern Kentucky’s first homicide in 2013. Police recovered a torso and leg parts.
The deceased man’s identity has not been released.
Jeffrey Allen, 21, of Verona, Anthony Baumgartner, 23, of Florence, and Stephen Harkness, 22, of Verona, admitted to killing the man on January 9th.
Authorities will charge the three men with murder and various other charges. Within their community, neighbors and friends considered the three men to be well-known and likable.
Last year, Fox news reported that heroin has spread into Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati like an epidemic.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that St. Elizabeth hospitals have experienced a 77 percent increase of heroin overdoses.
The Enquirer also reported that three Northern Kentucky counties (Boone, Kenton and Campbell) account for 63 percent of Kentucky’s prosecutions involving heroin possession and trafficking.
The suspects are being held without bond and have a court date scheduled for Thursday.
