If you're a New Orleans filmmaker looking for some great events to attend this week, here's an overview of what's going on:

Conversation with Marilyn R. Atlas

The Women in Film and Television: Louisiana branch partners with NOVAC and Fox 8 for a discussion with Los Angeles film producer and personal manager Marilyn R. Atlas. Throughout the evening, Atlas will discuss the topic of creating 3-dimensional female characters.

As a founding member of WIF's Luminas Committee, Atlas teaches at USC on supporting the portrayal of non-stereotypical women in the industry. She works closely with writers, actors, and actresses and is at home across film, television, and live theatre. She's currently working on a made-for-TV Lifetime movie adaptation of a best-selling young adult novel, and developing a musical version of Real Women Have Curves.

The conversation is set for Wednesday, 4 December, at 6p, hosted at Fox 8 Studios (1025 S. Jefferson Pkwy). Cost is free for NOVAC and WIFT members, $10 for non-members.

Conversation Series: Cinematographer Michael Goi

NOVAC's cinematography series instructor DJ McConduit moderates this intimate conversation with American Horror Story Asylum and Coven Director of Photography Michael Goi.

A native of Chicago, Goi has earned around 50 narrative credits in feature films and television since studying film at Columbia College. He was nominated for the American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Award for The Fixer and Judas, as well as Emmy nominations for My Name is Earl and Glee. He has also served as president of the ASC for three terms.

The conversation, sponsored by Kodak and hosted at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, happens Saturday, 7 December, at 2p. Located at NOCCA's Black Box Theatre (2800 Chartres St), admission is free for NOCCA and NOVAC members, $10 for non-members.

Cinematography Series: Intro to the HDSLR

DJ McConduit also hosts a workshop on the HSDLR at NOVAC's classroom this weekend. In hands-on, workshop-style, participants will learn the “ins-and-outs” of the Canon HDSLR. Participants will also explore the camera's features, gain insight on lighting techniques, and get a feel for the workflow of the camera's post-production.

The class is set for 10a on Sunday, 8 December, at 532 Louisa St. It's $150 for current NOVAC members, and $200 for new members.

Tickets to events listed on this page can be found at NOVAC's website.
