Shirley Croffard and her two small dogs are slowly recovering from an unprovoked attack by three neighborhood dogs in her West Denver home, after the large dogs broke through the screen of her security door, and ravaged her two small dogs Saturday evening reported the abc7 Denver Channel.

The small dogs may require several surgeries.

The dogs, which belong to one of Croffard's neighbors, reportedly have been impounded by Denver Animal Control in the past for running loose. This time however, was beyond anyone's imagination as two Mastiff breeds and one terrier mixed breed broke through the screen and attacked the homeowner's two dogs.

When Croffard tried to run interference to rescue her small dogs, the large dogs bit her. A neighbor who tried to intervene was bitten also.

Denver Animal Control seized the three dogs; two of the dogs are being held for a mandatory ten day quarantine period after biting Croffard and her neighbor.

The owner of the dogs has been cited for several violations.
