Three language conversation groups in Spanish, German and French have been launched in Montrose. Clay Goldberg and his wife Shannon Neil held organizational meetings for each group in early February 2012 and now have a schedule for future meetings. The two speak Spanish, German and French between them, and Mr. Goldberg is currently learning Mandarin Chinese.
The group for Spanish speakers will hold their next get-together at noon on Monday, February 13 at the office of Homer L. Sims Insurance, 901 E. Main Street. The first 30 minutes will be devoted to conversations in small groups of two or three, giving all a chance to practice speaking on an individual level. Group discussion of a short story passed out at the first meeting will take up the rest of the time. Future meetings may use articles from the local Spanish language newspaper La Voz del Pueblo as conversation starting points.
Four people attended the initial meeting for French speakers. Their next meeting will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 13, at the Lobby Grille in the Montrose Memorial Hospital, 800 S. 3rd Street. An article from the French newspaper Le Monde will be the topic of discussion.
Since only three people came to the first German language meeting, Mr. Goldberg is waiting to gather a larger group before planning more. Area residents of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in these informal gatherings. To learn more about these groups, contact Mr. Goldberg via email or by calling 970.901.2917.
