Three people were killed in a wreck after the driver lost control and slammed into a tree at a high rate of speed early Sunday morning in Cobb County.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Clay Road in Austell, according to Cobb County police.
Investigators said Mr. Michael A. Haynes, 20, of Austell was speeding in a silver 2008 Nissan Altima westbound on Clay Road when the wreck happened just west of Flint Hill Road.
“The driver was operating the vehicle at a speed well above the posted speed limit when he entered into a right curve,” police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said. “Due to the speed, he was not able to control the vehicle as it started to rotate in a clockwise manner. The vehicle then left the roadway, striking a tree.”
Mr. Haynes and passengers Mr. Jacolby D. Lowe, 24, and Mr. Jerod A. Lowe, 21, both of Marietta, all died at the scene, Officer Bowman said. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
There is no evidence that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, but the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an investigation that will include drug and alcohol testing, Officer Bowman said.
Anyone with information on the wreck is asked to call investigators at (770) 499-3987.
