Three hours of Fabs in mono on 'Chris Carter's Breakfast With the Beatles'

This week (Nov. 14), "Chris Carter's 'Breakfast With the Beatles'" on Sirius 25/XM 59 features a three-hour show with an all-mono playlist. The shows airs at 9 a.m. and midnight ET today (Nov. 14).

It's interesting to note that some of the mono mixes are different, in some cases significantly, from the stereo versions. Also, the mono mixes were ones the Beatles had a hand in. That wasn't always true with the stereo mixes. Here are some of the highlights:

"Back in the U.S.S.R," "A Day in the Life," "Tommorow Never Knows," "I Should Have Known Better," "Love Me Do," an hour of songs from "Live at the BBC," including "Sure to Fall," "A Shot of Rhythm and Blues," "That's All Right, Mama," "Carol" and "Soldier of Love," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band," a segment of White Album mono tracks with differences from the stereo versions, including "Helter Skelter," "Don't Pass Me By" and "Birthday," "Paperback Writer," "Rain" and "Get Back."

You can see the full playlist at the show's website at www.breakfastwiththebeatles.com. Coming attractions: Peter Asher (Nov. 21) and George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" (Nov. 28). Chris Carter also has a "Breakfast With the Beatles" show that airs locally in the Los Angeles area on KLOS-FM (95.5) and can be heard online at www.955klos.com.

Do you have a favorite mono mix or mixes? Add your comment below. For us, the mono "Sgt. Pepper" album brings back memories of bringing home the original mono vinyl and playing it on our record player. Remember those? It was a long time (at least a year) before we heard the stereo version back then. Hearing "Lovely Rita" in stereo for the first time was quite an experience.
