Three free agents signed with the Oakland Raiders to reinforce defense

The Oakland Raiders signed three free agents on Wednesday afternoon adding more depth to the defense. They signed linebacker Kaluka Maiava, defensive tackle Pat Sims, and defensive end Jason Hunter.

Mercury News reported on Wednesday that the Raiders that Reggie McKenzie was excited with the free agency signing. McKenzie also stated in the article that the when other opportunities arise, the Raiders will be more than happy to take them.

"We're excited to add three veterans through free agency, helping to create depth and competition on defense," stated McKenzie on Mercury News.

Twenty-six-year-old Maiava played for the Cleveland Browns last season where he started 13 games. He also started 22 games out of the Brown’s last 50 games. He was also a fourth round pick out of USC in 2009.

Sims is 27 years old and comes from the Cincinnati Bengals. He is 6-foot-2 and weighs 335 pounds. Sims comes to replace Desmond Bryant who signed with the Browns.

Hunter spent the last season in the injured reserve list with the Denver Broncos. The 27-year-old, 275 pound, defensive end has started 23 games in 88 games for the Broncos, Detroit Lions, and the Green Bay Packers.

Hunter signed as an undrafted free agent with the Packers when McKenzie was the general manager in Green Bay. So, the two know each other rather well.

Oakland also re-signed cornerback Coye Francies, who played in the special teams last year for the Raiders.
