It looks like the Atlanta Hawks have finally started their road to recovery. While the last threee teams the Hawks have faced haven’t exactly been the alphas of the league, Atlanta has made the most of their schedule, picking up their third straight win following a 97-92 victory over the Denver Nuggets Saturday night.
Atlanta started off the game on a hot streak, making three of their first shots and building up an 8-0 lead on their way to a 28-15 first quarter output. Denver fought back and was able to cut the lead to just six points to start out the fourth quarter. With about seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Atlanta and Denver swapped leads six times. Finally, with 41 seconds left in the quarter, Pero Antic drained a 20-foot jumper to give Atlanta a 93-92 lead that they would never relinquish.
With Atlanta starting off the season with the three seed in the Eastern Conference, it’s a little hard to believe that this is just the second time this season that Atlanta has won three straight games. The previous time this season was back in December when the then 15-12 Hawks notched consecutive wins over the Lakers, Kings and Jazz.
All five starters for Atlanta scored in double figures and three of them finished the night with double-doubles. Paul Millsap led the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds while DeMarre Carroll added another 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jeff Teague finished the game with 15 points and 10 assists.
Kyle Korver and Pero Antic may have not gotten double-doubles like the other starters, but they both had outstanding games. Korver added 18 points, including going 4/4 from beyond the arc. He’s been on quite a hot streak in the past four games where he’s made 14 of his 16 three-point attempts. Antic scored 16 points and was responsible for one steal as well.
After this quick two game home-stand, the Hawks travel to Charlotte to take on the Bobcats on St. Patrick’s Day. Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm EST.
