It was a fun-filled three-day weekend at Rainbow Lagoon Park in Long Beach as Southland visitors attended the 2013 Long Beach BBQ Festival for some family entertainment, live country music, dancing and best of all the food, especially the food — an extravaganza of finger-licking BBQ beef ribs, pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken, tri-tip, and lobster. Yes, BBQ lobster including Salmon kabobs and a blend of cosmopolitan cuisines.
It was a championship tournament for the best BBQ as contenders fired-up their grills and heated up the competition, all vying for the grand prize.
Winners were announced on stage and awards were handed out around 3:40 Sunday afternoon with Big Ed's 'Porky-N-Beans' from Florida coming out on top as the Grand Prize winner, followed by 'Texas Outlaws' of Kentucky taking home second place and the third place People's Choice Award going to 'Johnson's BBQ' of Virginia.
The festivities and feasting continued afterwards, winding down around 10 p.m. Sunday. And as another year has come and gone, but is not forgotten, BBQ lovers can look forward to next year's Long Beach BBQ Festival 2014.
