God call's us, in our own free will, to follow His Commandments of Love, becoming children of God--receiving all the graces to find, and share, a taste of heaven on earth. For Catholics, this is Eucharistic--a taste of heaven on earth, heaven within us.
What God promises, begins now!
But there are two sides to every coin. God gives us free will, and we can, unfortunately, choose to succumb to false prophets, becoming one of them, tasting and sharing the sugar-sweet nothingness of hell.
"Beloved, do not trust every spirit
but test the spirits to see whether they belong to God,
because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
This is how you can know the Spirit of God:
every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh
belongs to God,
and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus
does not belong to God." 1 John 3:22--4:6
All God asks of us is to believe in His Son, and follow His Commandment to Love one another to the best of our abilities according to the grace given us from above. Truly, this can be a cross to bear! Some of us are very hard to love--and we make loving a torturous thing. Yet Jesus bore His Cross for the Love of many seemingly unlovable people. And the two thieves crucified next to Him witness to the choice either to accept Love on its own painful terms, or reject it in the despair of not being able to manipulate it ourselves.
Children of God love Love as Love dictates; false prophets, and their minions try to re-create 'the terms of endearment.'
"The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
this day I have begotten you.
Ask of me and I will give you
the nations for an inheritance
and the ends of the earth for your possession.
And now, O kings, give heed;
take warning, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice before him;
with trembling rejoice." Psalm 2:7-8, 10-12
God gives us everything, even the bestowal of His Fatherhood upon us. Of course this came at the price of the shedding of His Begotten and Beloved Son's Blood. True sons and daughters appreciate this, and offer their lives in obedience to the Heavenly King. But many others rebel, rejecting Jesus' salvation, choosing for man made utopia's in ideologies which strike at the heart of Christianity.
Jesus commands us to Love one another; rebels kill babies, shackle true religion, enslave the poor, destroy the family, and make god's and goddesses' of mere mortals.
"When Jesus heard that John had been arrested,
he withdrew to Galilee.
From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say,
'Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.'” Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25
We witness the anti-Christian atrocities in our world with shock. Some of the perpetrators are 'Christian' themselves. Babies killed for profit and ideology, marriage perverted for politics and pleasure, families destroyed in the name of progress, freedom crushed under the boot of inclusiveness…but we must continue to carry our cross up the hill of Calvary.
Christ did, and he won our salvation. We must do the same.
