The last of three suspects was arrested Friday in connection with the murder of a man earlier this week in Dalton. And police said the deadly shooting was drug related.

Tywon Henderson, 17, was charged with murder along with Endy Becerra, 16, and Marquis Dequan Tanner, 20, in the shooting of 20-year-old Abel Carmona, according to Dalton police.

The shooting happened around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday at 214 Easterling St., police spokesman Bruce Frazier said. Officers were dispatched to a call of a shooting at the apartment complex when they found Carmona lying on the ground in the parking lot, Frazier said.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the shooter fled the scene in a small dark-colored sedan, police said. Meanwhile Carmona was being attended to by his friends Marcus Soto and Roberto Lopez who were trying to stop the bleeding from a gunshot wound to his chest, Frazier said.

Carmona was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at Hamilton Medical Center, police said.

In the ensuing investigation, detectives determined that Carmona went to the apartments on Easterling Street with Soto and Lopez in order to buy a large quantity of marijuana, Frazier said. But something went wrong during the deal, which ended with the 20-year-old being shot.

Carmona’s friend, 20-year-old Lopez was later arrested after investigators determined that he lied to them during his interview, Frazier said. Information developed through the course of the investigation led detectives to Becerra who was the first to be arrested Thursday.

Investigators said Tanner, 20, of 110 Mallory Drive and Henderson, of 1300 Autumn Court, were with Becerra at the meeting on Easterling Street when the shooting happened. At this time, investigators have not determined which of the suspects shot Carmona. Tanner were arrested Thursday, police said.
