Three Calgary natives to represent Canada at 2014 Paralympic Winter Games

According to the Canadian Paralympic Committee website on Wednesday, three Calgary natives will represent Canada at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi from March 7-16.

They are standing skier Alana Ramsay, skier Alexandra Starker and cross country skiing legend Brian McKeever.

McKeever, who is legally blind, is a seven-time Canadian Paralympic gold medallist, having won the gold medal in the 5km classic and 10km freestyle cross-country skiing competitions at the 2002 Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Turin. At the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, McKeever won the 1km, 10km and 20km cross country skiing competitions.

Ramsay, who has cerebral palsy, finished in sixth place in a World Cup giant slalom competition and eighth place in a World Cup super giant slalom competition at Panorama, British Columbia in January.

Meanwhile Starker, who has one arm, won a bronze medal in the women's giant slalom and super combined at the 2014 International Paralympic Committee World Alpine Skiing Championships in La Molina, Spain.
