Three Calgarians representing Team Pacific at 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge

According to Hockey Canada's website, there are three native Calgarians representing team Pacific at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The players are Braylon Shmyr of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Nick Merkley of the Kelowna Rockets, and Zach Sawchenko of the Moose Jaw Warriors. Also on the team is Brady Reagan of High River, Alberta, forty minutes south of Calgary.

Shmyr is a forward, Merkley and Reagan are defensemen, while Sawchenko is a goaltender.

So far this season, Merkley has nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points, Shmyr has two goals and four assists for six points, while Reagan has two assists. Sawchenko meanwhile is 5-5 with a goals against average of 3.45.

Team Pacific played their first game on Sunday in a 4-3 loss to Quebec and then beat Team West 6-3 on Monday. Sawchenko recorded the victory against Team West as he made 25 saves in the process. Team West meawhile is represented by Calgary Hitmen forward Terrell Draude of Warman, Saskatchewan.
