According to a memo dated Aug. 23, 2013, issued by Chief Deputy Randy Christian, Public Relations Officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff's office, a householder discovered three suspects on his property and attempting to steal some tools. He reportedly confronted the three and held them at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Just before 6:00 p.m. deputies were called to a residence in the 6000 block of Blue Creek Road in western Jefferson County to investigate a report of a burglary in progress. Deputies were told that the property owner was holding three suspects at gunpoint.
Three storage buildings and three vehicles had been broken into. The chain on the gate to the property had been cut to allow the suspects to gain entry. They also cut the locks off the storage buildings.
The suspects told two separate stories for their actions. They initially said that someone told them they could come to the property and collect scrap. When they were told that the victim had not authorized this, they said that they noticed his donkey was out of the fence and they were trying to coax it back in with a cracker.
