Three arrested in connection with downtown Santa Cruz homicide

Santa Cruz police have made an arrest in the weekend shooting death of 32-year-old Pauly Silva and are hoping more witnesses will come forward with information on the case.

Officers responded to Red bar on Locust Street at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday where they located Silva lying dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say there were several witnesses to the shooting, who said the suspect was possibly connected to a green or gray 90s model Mercedes.

Watsonville police stopped a vehicle that matched the witnesses’ description and took the two occupants, known Norteno gang members, into custody. Santa Cruz police then arrested a third person of interest on charges related to probation violation, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and resisting arrest.

Police are not releasing the suspects’ names until detectives have an opportunity to solidify any role they may have had in the homicide.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Red and may have witnessed the shooting Saturday morning is urged to contact the Santa Cruz police Investigations Unit at (831) 420-5815. Anonymous tips may be left by calling (831) 420-5995.
