Three arrested in connection with Bolshoi acid attack

Earlier this year, the world was shocked and saddened to hear of the acid attack that nearly blinded Bolshoi artistic director Sergei Filin as he went home on Jan. 17. While the director stated not long after the incident that he knew but wouldn't identify the person who ordered the attack, it appears that (as many speculated at the time) the legendary company's dancers were involved. The three men arrested on March 5 include Bolshoi soloist Pavel Dmitrichenko, suspected of planning the attack, alleged attacker Yury Zarutsky and Andrei Lipatov, who is identified as a accomplice, according to an AP report.

As far as motivation for the attack, some contend that Dmitrichenko's girlfriend didn't get along with the director. Widespread jealousies over casting might also have contributed. Whatever the motivation, we wish Filin a continued recovery.
