On Saturday, April 26, more than 3,400 Comcast employees and their families, friends and community partners will “make change happen” as they volunteer at service projects across New Mexico as part of Comcast’s 13th Comcast Cares Day.
Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast and NBCUniversal’s signature day of service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. Volunteers will lend a hand in these nine cities in New Mexico:
More than 350 Comcast volunteers will help beautify Emerson Elementary School from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. by cleaning the school, landscaping the playground and school grounds, and working with teachers to clean classrooms. Earlier in the week, employees will also sort food donations for Roadrunner Food Bank and participate in a blood drive with United Blood Services.
More than 250 Comcast volunteers will meet from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help improve the Deming Little League fields in partnership with Deming Intermediate School by painting and replacing benches, and cleaning the area to make sure the field is ready to play ball.
In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Juan County, more than 75 volunteers will help improve the Berg Park Nature Trails by installing new wood chips, cleaning up the trails, and gardening from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
More than 1,300 volunteers will help improve Mesilla Elementary School by creating a beautiful campus setting for students in pre-K through fifth grade as they perform indoor and outdoor cleaning, painting and ground work from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
50 volunteers will partner with MainStreet de Las Vegas to paint vacant buildings and perform general cleaning of the town’s historic downtown from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
250 volunteers will give back to the Portales community by helping to beautify the Portales Recreation Center’s indoor and outdoor areas from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
350 volunteers will partner with the Heart Gallery of New Mexico to help young people who have “aged-out” of the foster care system with a toiletry drive from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Volunteers will assemble and supply toiletry care kits to for 18-year-olds who are living on their own.
500 volunteers will bring out their artistic side at the Silver City Recreation Center by participating in a Mosaic project to help enrich the center. Volunteers will also help with landscaping and cleaning the surrounding area from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
More than 275 volunteers will meet at the Tucumcari Golf Course from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to help with the beautification and landscaping of the area by repairing golf cart paths, installing yard markers on the driving range and a variety of painting projects.
This year the Company expects more than 80,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers to participate in over 700 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, more than half a million volunteers have contributed over three million volunteer hours since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $14 million in grants to partner organizations to match the efforts of our volunteers on Comcast Cares Day.
