"We must be willing to let go of the life we've planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us." ~ Joseph Campbell
I love the idea of a New Year. It's a real and metaphoric new beginning filled with so many great possibilities for the future. New things to accomplish… changes to make… adventures to have.
Is there a new life waiting for you? Is it time to let go of the old self, the old life, the old job, or old relationships to make room for the new?
Allow yourself to mentally go through all you've accumulated (be it possessions, perspectives, relationships, habits, etc.) and honestly appraise what continues to serve you and which you could do without. This process can bring up the full gambit emotions, you are likely to experience everything from the pure joy and appreciation for the beauty that something or someone brings your life, to sadness and remorse when you find yourself clinging onto someone or something that is holding you back from the life that is waiting.
This honest appraisal must not be just an intellectual exercise. Let your heart-stirring assessment serve as a motivator to commit to actively cherishing those people and things that truly serve and add joy to your life, and let go of those that don't.
Do this in one area of your life or many. You choose. No matter how narrow or wide your purging extends, you'll experience a wonderful sense of renewal as you devote your energies to really and truly making your life shiny and new.
